St Maarten Regatta & BVI Spring Regatta
In
late February I plan on sailing to St. Maarten for the annual
Heineken Regatta which goes from February 29 to March 4. I have
volunteered to work on the mark boat in the past and plan to do it
again in 2012. If anyone is interested in sailing over there and
staying on the boat, I would welcome the company. It can be a long
and difficult sail into the wind and requires an overnight trip. In
the past it has taken me over 24 hours but it has been quite
stimulating. I have done the sail in the past with friends (and with
Sue in 2010). There is no real fixed date for leaving but I want to
be there before February 27. We could explore the area by boat until
the Regatta starts and you would would be on your own to explore the
island for the days I am working. Rental cars are not expensive and
there are beautiful beaches and terrific duty free shopping. There
are also many excellent French restaurants. Check the calendar
for the proposed sailing dates. I hope whoever sails over with me
will help me get back. The sail back is much more comfortable. We
could also explore some of the islands before we return if there is
time.
I am also volunteering in the BVI Spring Regatta. Last year I put up a couple of volunteers on the boat and may do so again this year. For that reason, there will be no space available after March 24.
Call me and we can discuss the Heineken trip. If I am down south when you decide, email me at my regular address. I will give you my Skype address and we can talk.
